Lights are ON...

I went down and programmed the lights 4:30-11:30 pm. If anyone is there tonight let me know if the lights DID NOT come on.

Perfect day for a skate. Photos taken around 2 pm Saturday afternoon Nov 19th.

I order new hockey netting for both frames, this is not going to work anymore.

Day 10...

Ten Days and we can say we are off to the "rink races".  We had to kick of a group of hockey skaters tonight that braved the uneven sheet.

Kris, Bill, Dave, Peter, John and Kurt chipped away the upper ice before laying down two coats on each.

Upper = 13 coats

Lower = 15 coats

-10ºC but felt like -19ºC.

Dave brought down his blower to blast of the ice dust from chopping the ridges. (Ghost Busters)
Kurt started a fire with one match, and some petroleum product.
First coat on the lower ice as we listen to the Calgary Flames lose to Tampa Bay.
Warming up before hydrating.

Looks like warm weekend and Monday ahead. The skaters and Sunshine should help to level the sheets this weekend so let's take a break and regroup next week.

Skate-able Six....

 Six days in and it is Skate-able. Might be a record, I will have to go back on the Blog.

Upper = 5

Lower = 6

Kris, Craig and Kurt put down a generous layer, weather permitted, tonight. Took about an hour.

Graham and Mike showed up from the Banff Trail rinks. They are having some issues with their set up  and wanted to check out our ice. We gave them the tour of the hose room and reel. Chatted about how we pack then flood and our processes, etc.

Skate-able. {mic drop}

Kris on the wet end for the first time this season. He hasn't lost his touch. Craig keeping an eye on him.

Lower is looking fine.

Let's keep up the good work guys and go again tomorrow night at 7 PM.

First Flood 2022-23 Season

Great turnout tonight for the first flood of the season.

This afternoon, Peter and Kurt packed the rinks and the sun helped to make the packing hard. We started at 7 pm and finished around 10, but only managed to get the lower done. Tomorrow night at 7 pm to get the upper and maybe squeeze another on the lower.

Andy here making sure the shovel is City of Calgary compliant, with the proper gloves under the chin and 40% lean weight on the shovel.
Jeff on the left, realizing that this is his first "first" flood ever. Dave on the right, mentioning to us that he is no longer a rookie this year!
Jamie, the new IceGuy, showed up walking a dog in the park and warming up by the fire. Hope to see you again Jamie.
Chris is on the lead, making a slurpie to start the process.

Peter making the "Rosemont 500 lap" track on the upper ice. Packing and letting the sun firm up the snow.
Kids enjoying the sunny day after the storm.

Night one, Dave, Chris, Andy, Craig and Kurt.

We are going every night at 7 pm if you can make it. See you then.

Keeping the hose on the ice,

Kurt
